couldn't sleep last night. i can remember a time in my life when i had trouble sleeping, but nothing for a long while.
i couldn't take just laying in bed wide-awake.
so i entertained self with self.
i started reading.
old journals. old blogs.
yeah.
who was i?
who am i?
fuck.
you know?
it's incredibly redundant but these 'entries' stuck out at me and i again felt that part of the past.
so i apologize.... for repeating things i've already shared. it's just interesting. some things change. some the same.

(These were to things I took out of the book A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, by Dave Eggers. I was still reading it when chris died.)
"We run back across the highway, back into the red Civic and keep driving. Past the surfers, through the eucalyptus forest before Half Moon Bay, birds swooping up and over then back, circling around us-they too, for us!-then the cliffs before Seaside-then flat for a little while, then a few more bends and can you see this motherfucking sky? I mean, have you fucking been to California?"
PG 60
"'Alcoholism and death make you omnivorous, both reckless and afraid, amoral, desperate.'
'Do you really believe that?'
'Sometimes. Sure. No. Yes'"

****DECEMBER 2005***
sooo 2005???
the year cancer won?
the year to love and be loved?
the year of new cars? (heh. sarah, jenna, jen and myself)
the year it all began?
the year it all ended?
the year of letting-go, moving-on, and growing-up?
let me know what you think. ...
Yours.

(this was the only way i could document this memory. this 25 hour span with a rotation of the same 6 people was one of the greatest 25 hours i've ever had. I forgot all about this day. no one else sees all the things i see .... there are so many stories about this day.... but i cannot for the life of me verbalize them)
25 hours AM: speech-8 .telegraph-10. paycheck-11. PM: dogs-2. kyle-3. chris-6. coffee to the people/david-7. wine-9. burritos-10. smoke-11. AM: gilman-12. claremont-1. sleep-3. french toast-8. goodbye-9.

i think i would have kids just for the reason of bringing them {to the bulb}. But i'd have to remember to keep bringing them after the age of four, otherwise they would only remember it as a dream.”

(there was a night i was stuck in awful traffic trying to get into the city... just to turn around and leave but getting stuck in even worse traffic. it took 2 hours and 40 minutes for traffic to go 2 miles. i was in my car for somewhere around 5 hours.)
one amusing thing did happen. so i'm in this traffic where people are literally getting out of their cars and getting food to bring back. so everyone's lights are on and brake lights are on. i could see silhouettes of the people in the car in front of me. and they were totally fucking.. i mean they were going at it, the car was moving, feet in the air and everything. the guy in a car next to me was like -"what are they doing in there?!" i said- "i think they're fucking" ... and then there was nothing i could do... they were right there in front of me. free porn in sf? here it comes: a better version of me (crossed-fingers)
back again to the talk of writer's block.
i'm not even journaling with pen and paper. not daily. hardly ever.
i've offered a few solutions to myself:
1. i'm bored.
-i'm bored but everyday i have something to go do or someone to go meet and on and on... but none of those things thrill me. i love my friends. i live for them. hanging out.. going to lunch.. laying in parks... the occasional beers into the afternoon and long into the night... all fantastic ... but so damn boring, really. i'm not doing anything new in my life. my job has recently changed up a bit... but it's essentially doing the same thing... just doing it twice.
maybe when i am in school again i won't be so bored?
2. i don't feel so comfortable writing about myself.
-i used to write freely whether it was in a journal or somewhere on the interwebs. now, i begin writing and half way through i just don't care. and i don't see why anyone else would either. does anyone really care about some new discovery i have made today? or a thought i had about a very obvious concept. i also used to write to keep in touch with people i rarely see but i know read. most importantly those being sarah and jenna. while sarah was gone and before jenna moved back to oakland... it was my way of telling my stories. now we all see each other almost daily... the stories don't need to be shared in written word.
but its not just this blog nonsense... i would write stories (fictional and non)... poetry... and ideas.... things to remember.
then i think back to the time i was writing the most... and it is when i had a car.
i've loved not having a car for almost a year now... for monetary reasons mostly. but my car was my brain space... my moveable room. I would spend time with her everyday... going on long scenic drives around this bay area... blasting music.... and at some point stopping where there is a view and my mind would go... and i would write write write all my thoughts and fears and other silly things. my car was my freedom. somewhere to go without going anywhere.
i've got to find a substitution.
also, this time in my life when i was writing a lot.... my ticking brain and tender heart were learning a lot of things. i had to write to comprehend the many conflicting emotions i had running around my sleeve. and now that i've been schooled on loss and ache ... i am jaded... cynical... cold.
when did this happen?
i'm getting to the point where i want to delete this all and give up. but i think i'll just stop for now.
pondering pondering... where did you go ms. katielove? everyone is pondering.

the earth is not a cold dead place.
Spring of 2008 was a season of anticipation. I was planning my move to San Francisco to save money on my commute. (ha.) My wounded heart, still raw, was beginning to heal and harden again. Harden in the good way... in a stronger way. I wanted to go into a world no one knew me so I could figure out who that even was any more. Sarah was preparing to leave the country, for the first time. For no planned amount of time only a few plane tickets bought ahead of time leaving her with a few "landing points". Left with no plan and a lot of fuckin courage. Jenna had just made one of the hardest decisions of her life when she broke off her engagement to Dominic. Jenna decision was not only leaving Dominic, she would have no choice but to leave her entire life behind - i.e. her job and friends. I often look at my two best friends to find reflections of myself. At this time we were in different boats all heading down the same river. Each one of us going forward independently of each other, for the first time ever. The following year and some months have changed the three of us, have distanced us from each other... and brought us back together. Though, I think we were all trying to achieve the same goal. We have tried desperately to regain a part of us we had all lost. There was an earlier transition phase where we were all changed, a few years back. I think it is from the times before that moment we three are wanting to live again. Three ghost girls reliving our pasts. (I am wondering now if the only people still reading/following this are Sarah and Jenna.) .... back on track.
Spring of 2008=anticipation. Summer of 2008=pull the trigger.
I easily found a place to live because of my fondness of the garden burger at People's Cafe and my even greater fondness of all the cute boys who worked and hung around there. (spoiler: these boys became the shrader/lost boys) I climbed up into Shrader House June 27th with jittery giggles, nervous shyness, two cats and no job. My first 6 weeks were supposed to be all the time I had in the house. I was eager to know my new roommates and the meet my new city. Quickly, I fell i love with the boys: Alex, Arseniy, and Dustin. The original roommates. Annie was still paying rent at this time but living at her boyfriends. Shrader House developed into more of a hostel. Between the roommates, friends in town for the weekend/week/month/summer and the scattering of couch crashers I had something like 15 roommates in those six weeks. The, at times, claustrophobic amount of people around me all the time, slingshot (slungshot? slingshotted? hahaha.) me into a social circle like none I had ever experienced before.
Sadie returned from visiting Maddie in South Africa. (catch up: i was subletting sadie's room) It was my time to leave these boys. By now I completely adored them all. I was having horrible luck finding a new place to live. Intimidated by sadie I feared her return. I felt like she would smell me on what was hers. For a reason I have never been able to understand, she loved me and MADE me stay in the house, promising we would make it work, somehow. For the next two month I shared the living room with Dustin. I built a nook out of the rounded window corner. Record player. Mattress. Books. Clothes in the hallway. I lived in the nook for two months.
Summer slowed to Autumn, San Francisco gets weird this time of year. Fewer and fewer friends are over all the time. Everyone stays indoors. In the Spring I felt so completely devastated all the time, but now there was a simple gladness within me. I fell deeper for all the new people in my life. By now all my roommates and practically roommates had become my family. More so than my own kin at times. Annie moved to New York in mid October freeing up the bedroom at the end of the hall. I swooped. The nook was comfortable, but it was a door and walls I yearned for.
Late fall something shifted. A darkness began to fill my heart. not a hateful one, but a hopeless one. I had now lived in SF for four months and the only friends I had made were the people I shared a floor and ceiling with, and a handful of people from work. I eventually stopped having fun going out all the time. I was notorious for pulling houdini acts. A text from alex once read: "you always bounce so cutty." Often.... no ... like every night... I would get bored and end up cabbing it home not saying bye to anyone. Mostly, just because I wanted to avoid telling someone who was having a blast that I was bored/tired and wanted to leave. I got sick of meeting the same drunk faces week after week and reintroducing myself.. knowing they won't remember me this time either. I began to feel inferior to all the hipness that is spewed all over the city. While observing the night life of San Francisco an aggravating frustration began to take hold. Most people I encountered didn't impress me... or fool me. The constant competition for attention pushed me inwards. I retreated from the scene preferring loneliness and cooking at home to all those shitty superficial people. (to clarify: shitty superficial people Do Not = anyone included in the shrader hostel collective)
However, I am not the kind that can get along alone in this world. I need other people. I need love. Which is why I was frustrated. I really wanted to like them all ... Seeing through their bullshit I could see well intentioned rad people. But everyone is caught up in It. whatever "It" is. I found "It" all very annoying. The love for my new family began to change. The newness, familiar. The novelty, old news. I spent the next two, maybe three, months withdrawn and depressed. I hid because I was disappointed in myself. 'I did not move here to be like this'. With the New Year, in my usual fashion, I used the reflective time of year to change some things. I started stepping out again. Saying - 'this is you life now. Find something you love about it.' I began to see the familiar attractions of SF, then like an ex-boyfriend calling me up to catch up on things, an opportunity to return to Body Time arose.
I had left the East bay not being able to look it in the eye. Everything reminded me of him. So, I ran to a distracting loveless city. By now I was over that silly boy, with only a few residual memories that brought on only nostalgic sadness. I felt confident in returning to Oakland. Late winter warmed to early Spring. My perspective on San Francisco changed to a more positive one. The energy, diversity and beauty of it all is surely why so many people cram into her. I found myself truly loving her, and on occasion I gripped even her hand as to not slip and fall again into my sorrow. I could appreciate the city more because of all the time I was spending with my "ex" (oakland). From a distance I valued and appreciated her. But I still felt awkward most of the time, uneasy at best.
Two months of commuting from Haight to Rockridge passed and I began toying with the idea of moving back to Oakland. ...maybe when Sarah returns form India... I would think. Right away I felt at home in Oakland. I reconnected with old friends and made a small handful of new ones. I cannot explain this to you unless you have lived, or spent a significant amount of time, on both sides of the Bay Bridge, so just know: they are different. There is a taste of hipness bile and shitty superficial people populate every corner of the world (unfortunately) but on the East side... there is tranquility to the air that I think makes people a little more chilled out about the hole I'm-So-Cool bullshit. A more sincere sense of community exists. So, i decided - move to where I feel comfortable, to where I do not retreat and hide, to where I can stretch out.
The idea of leaving Shrader House wet my eyes and sunk my heart deep into my chest cavity. I was spending less and less time with everyone, my days off usually had me heading eastbound as well. the following three months flew by. My roommates grew distant. I found myself feeling shy around them - alone in a crowded room - like they were all strangers again. I couldn't think of what to contribute to conversations. I started feeling left out of inside jokes. Maybe, we began this subconscious detachment because we all knew that one day I owuld be gone. Better get used to it first. Sadie, did not let go. Our friendship was (still is... but this story is in past tense) unique and tender. While our personality types and backgrounds were a bit opposite of each other, we found something within one another to really learn from. We were there for the other to lean on. I learned more form her than I ever thought I would. I continuously felt guilt for my lack of patience towards her, when all she really wanted was to help me find happiness. Sadie decided to move to Chicago to escape SF and to see new things in a place where no one knew her. The last night I saw her we hugged and cried. We both cried so hard we freaked out all of our friends.. and probably a few strangers entering the bar. I sobbed the whole walk home from her going away soiree. It was that night I realized Sadie was the truest friend I had made in the last year (it was a little over a week at this point from the time I moved into Shrader House a year before) and now she was flying away.
After Sadie left town the house dynamic changed again. I started to get a cold shoulder feeling from the boys. A week into feeling non existent I couldn't take it anymore. I let myself feel the sadness I had been holding back not wanting to admit. I didn't want to believe these people meant more to me than I did to them. That none of these friendships and bonds were real. Again.. it was part subconscious detachment and part everyone being wrapped up in their own shit too much (myself included) but those aren't good excuses and still, it fucking hurt. I did what anyone would do. I pushed them away as much as I felt they had pushed me. With one foot out the door I felt like I was now the Annie/"imaginary" roommate.. and my role of Wendy to the Lost Boys had already been replaced. I was excited to relocate to a place where I felt comfortable and could really settle into my surroundings, but I had many fears at the same time. I was anxious that when the time came for my other foot to leave Shrader these past 13 months would shrink in my memory. My few friendships would weaken. Mostly, that to the ones I loved I would become nothing more but a memory and name. My touches in the house had already begun to disappear. I didn't think I would leave on that sort of note. I have never believed in burning bridges. But keeping friendships alive is a two way road and I wasn't sure if either party would regularly travel it.
Obviously, a lot of these feeling were really brought on by my ultra-sensitivity and it was all really just a bunch of self-protective/defensive crap both sides were fronting. My last night at Shrader House was nothing but prefect. It was a Wednesday night which meant it was a West Addy night. West Addy (Western Addition) is a weekly party at Underground SF. The first week I moved in was the first week of West Addy. Actually, West Addy at the time was held only once a month. The DJs.. well Alex and Dustin of course. Alex stopped DJing for it a few months back. My last week at Shrader was the first time Dustin has not been the DJ... which, for me, was perfect. The three of us walked down to lower Haight.. brown bagged beers in hand. Because neither of them were "working" we got to kick it one last time. I remember this reminiscent conversation:
"awww. you guys! this is where it all started!" -K
"ha! i know! i remember that night. it was the first time you came out with all of us." -A
"Yeah!!!" -K
"and you got laid that night!" -A
(blush and smirk) -K
"by that vegan biker dude." -A
"hahahaha! yeah... awww matt. West Addy has always been good to me in that way." -K
We drank, danced, and laughed all night. I even made it until 2! ok.. I ended up leaving around 145... but I had good reason. West Addy has always been good to me.
The next morning I blew kisses to San Francisco and waved goodbye for now.
I don't have a real conclusion to my story because it ends with the present and I'm better at analyzing things that have already happened. (Aren't most people? I guess otherwise I would be psychic.) I have definitely left a piece of my heart in San Francisco and I am known to wear flowers in my hair... but for this time in my life Oaktown is exactly where I want to be. I have been forever changed by the experience. I still have not regained the part of me I lost years ago, but I am okay with that. Nothing is constant except change, and as long as I like who I am in the moment.. well then I think I've done all right.

Nothing is constant except change, and as long as I like who I am in the moment.. well then I think I've done all right.

come on!
ugh! as usual i just wrote an entire post. ...about a coffee shop that has been in my life for three years.
then i thought: god, this is so stupid. and deleted it. though, it had a nice nostalgic feel - it was stupid.
it seems that everything i write as of late i end up hating.
either i am not thinking enough or i am talking too much.
next to dance.. (which i've also lost my luster for) writing has always been my form of expression. unlike dance it was never something i had to practice.
i've been journaling since i learned to write. i've dabbled in and out of poetry since the age of 11. I've written several (unshared) short stories. IT IS SO AGGRAVATING TO HAVE CONTINUOS WRITER'S BLOCK!!! it makes me want to scream and throw things at walls.
...does anyone have some spare pottery laying around.... because i have a wall.

wooden lips.
As I was getting off work yesterday Sarah met em at the shop and we strolled to Jenna's.
3 besties.
curry.
session.
tunes.
girl talk about boys and life and moms and kids these days.
Sarah stayed the night at Shrader House.
food: tacos
activities: katie's two weeks worth of laundry. puzzle. movie. Inhaling.
beverage: juice
movie: Romance and Cigarettes
puzzle: Jungle Scene
This morning running slightly late as I was checking NextMuni I decided I need to start getting up earlier again and stop sleeping in until 8. When I saw I could make the next N in ten minutes I got comfortable talking with Sarah. Then I realized I looked up the wrong line and the N was actually coming in 4 minutes. damn. I left the house planning on taking the 71 or the 6 downtown.
I approached the bus stop at the same time as the bus. While I was counting my change the guy next to me asked if I could break a 5. I said no and that I only had 3. He looked around for a nervous second as I said - You know what I'll just pay for you. Get on the bus. He looked a little dumbfounded so more encouragingly I said - Well, come on. and he stepped up onto the bus. As I was paying our fares he started to go down the bus asking every person if they could break a 5. no one could/would.
He sat across from me and we exchanged names. His: Collin. Mine: Katie (duh) I told him to not worry about it ...it's only a buck fifty. He told me I was very sweet. I lightly blushed and smiled as if to say both "I know" and "Thank you"
Small talk about where we live.. where we were going... and karma was had.
It's probably a good thing to start the day off with good karma.
I've been in denial since Thursday morning that I am getting sick. Yesterday I was sure it was allergies. But half way through the day at work everything was really heavy and it took all my energy to do anything. By the time Sarah showed up to give me my house key back I was feeling exhausted and hot. I can't smell anything. I felt useless with any customer. Everything I eat has a muted taste. And now there's this cough starting.
being sick is the stupidest thing.

Arseniy
I found some quotes by Arseniy in an old notebook of mine. All were made within a 20 minute time span one day when we were both at home. also, they were all shouted to me from his room. Damn, I miss that Russian.
"oooooh! i was supposed to add the sauce AFTER boiling the noodles. I'm a retard. God damnit. I need a wife, dude." - arseniy
"okay so, katie. i clean my room everyday. like every fucking day. but at the end of the day it's filthy again. i mean it's not filthy, but there is just shit everywhere. i feel like i need to get a hold on that before i can be a complete human being." -arseniy.
"hey, katie. no one else has taken me up on this offer. but if you ever need it, i have an abundant supply of hot chocolate... or cocoa i guess you Americans call it. so yeah, i have a bunch.... i keep it in the drawer with my condoms and vitamins." –arseniy
p.s. (mostly this is to Jordan and Jenna... because i think you are the only two who get excited when i write new things) real blogs coming soon. i've been writing in journals for the past few months (with real pens!!!) and have been neglecting this here blog.

you may have already read this elsewhere
.....er on facebook. its that "write 25 random things about yourself no one else knows" thing..... i re-read mine and thought i would repost it here.... i first wrote this on February 1st
... i have a lot to say but i dont know how to say it yet.... so i am filling this blog with random uncreative things..
25 things GO!
1. One of my favorite things to do is take a shower. I would take three a day if I could.
2. I enjoy doing the dishes. It gives me time to think.
3. I wish I smoked just so that I could have an excuse to go stand outside for a while.
4. I consider going out to eat a hobby. And I am very good at it.
5. I love making Sarah laugh.
6. My roommates are my family.
7. My little sister means the world to me. How much I care about her and worry about her entering “the real world” terrifies me and is keeping me from wanting kids of my own.
8. I thought I was gay when I was 19. I’ve never really explored it or wanted to… and that was reason enough to know I’m not.
9. I’ve always been known for smelling good… even in pre Body Time days.
10. I have this thing for tall skinny boys… and it always gets me in trouble.... ALWAYS.
11. I love driving. I love it so much I have often considered being a cab driver… but I don’t own a car.
12. My right nipple lactates. I’ve never shown anyone though.
13. Beyonce is my guilty pleasure and role model.
14. I’d rather do things myself to make sure they are done “right” than ask someone else to help. This has made it difficult for me to accept help that is offered.
15. I also have a thing for guys with crooked teeth… not too crooked, but enough so that I know they will accept my imperfections.
16. I fuck around with the guitar, I don’t exactly play it.
17. Hazelnut coffee is my favorite.
18. single vanilla soy latte when i feel fancy/frivolous/rich
19. my nicknames are as follows… KTC, Katie Cadillac, KTluv, Katie Bell, KK, Kate, KC
20. Potatoes (in any form) are my comfort food. Followed by peanut butter.
21. One day I will return to Oakland but right now SF is exactly where I want to be
22. I wish I were closer with my mother.
23. Sunflowers will always make me smile
24. My favorite pizza… Pineapple, Jalepeno and Olives. TRY IT!
25. I am becoming frighteningly numb to the news of friends dying. This needs to stop happening so frequently.

laundry
i'm having that slipping feeling again. that feeling of not having enough time.
what i can't figure out is why i feel like i am running out of time.
i've been listening to a lot of my good good friend aaron's music for the last few days.
i have known aaron since we were 13?... yes 13. he has been in a relationship with BOTH of my best friends. one in middle and high school. the other one after high school...
needless to say... i know him pretty well... from different angles.
he has the most pure and true sounding music and poetry.
damn, i have been so lucky to know the amazing people in my life.
the other night i was updating one of my lists.
if you know me well enough you know i keep very accurate documentation of my life. .. in the forms of mostly stories, poems, lists, logs and journals.
this list is always the hardest one for me to look over and update...
mostly a list of heart ache and failures...
but something to always remember.
yeah.
lists.

before i shower
i woke to the rain. i put a record on and snuggled back into bed.
the rain started coming down harder. i reached up from my nest of blankets to pull back the curtain.
hail was slamming into the window.
went into the kitchen. alex smelled like soap. dustin made me laugh. decided to cancel laundry day. i'm sure i have enough socks.
the sky is quiet. not even raining. i can see blue sky now. mama birds are chirping to their young.
people have stepped out of their homes. the street is soaked and peaceful.
i have some good trees on my block.
it's been a good morning.

living life the way i wanna live it.
i have been meaning to write more lately. so much is happening.
i have been meaning to write my grandparents a letter. i usually write them once a week and i think it has been since the new year that i last wrote. i have been meaning to write sarah an email. it has been since that guy broke the front door that i wrote her. i haven't updated this for a minute... at least in a substantial way. but honestly i haven't felt motivated and i am tired.
today for the first time in a long while i felt inspiration.
new friends are really fun and fill me with curiosity. i value my old friends even more. through meeting someone new you reflect who you are by telling stories of your loved ones. and today i realized i have a lot of amazing friends. talented folk. compassionate folk. hopeful folk. brave folk. in turn this makes meeting the new friend even more exciting because one day you will know what a wonderful addition they are to your life. what kind of folk they are. we are all teachers we are all students.
this rain is good and needed for growth. we shouldn't forget that.
i am approaching a junction. i am predicting that in five months i will need to make a decision.
big sigh.
i am looking forward to:
Agent Ribbons with Carrie and Jenna. Aug 23....hahaha i mean Feb.... I have no idea why I wrote Aug
Intant Messengers at Slim's March 7
Sarah coming home ???

.... i hear eucalyptus lavender soap calling me
it's 12.32 am
i got home around 45 minutes ago from family fun time.
we celebrated mom's and zach's birthdays with pizza, beer, red velvet cake and bowling.
my family is making some weird turns. we actually had fun... together.
lizzie dyed her hair brown. we look so much more like sisters now. people might believe us.
i was getting anxious to get back to my shrader family.
i was sad when i arrived at my dark empty house.
then i remembered it's saturday night.
i considered meeting up with the boys.
but i'm too cold to go out.
all i want to do right now is take a long hot shower.
tomorrow is my TEN year anniversary with Jenna.
we are going on a date. (i'm hoping to get to second base)
besides drew ... jenna is the only person who i know the date of when we met.
through searching my memory, checking a calendar/weed-log/journal i am sure i could pull up dates for other people... if you really want me to. but jenna bean i met february 1, 1999.
we've seen each other through some crazy/amazing/stupid shit.
we should definitely go for another 70 years.

smellin good sittin pretty
so far 2009 has started off hella fine. heh. sorry had to make a cheesy rhyme.
i've started the Spring semester and it's gonna be a breeze. its my last semester of junior college! fuck yeah! five years and i'm half way done. There will be a day when I am not in school anymore. I promise.
I'm a week deep in my return to Body Time... and it still fits. My first morning back I made audible squeals when unlocking the door and was giggling to myself as I counted the register drawer and took in the oh so wonderfully familiar smell.
Talking to customers, custom scenting and even using the register came back immediately, but I felt a little wobbly on the managerial stuff. After a week though I've remembered all the routine things like ordering, schedule making, pours, banking and all that. Now I've just got to get into the merchandising and organizing of it. Luckily, Mitra already had the place looking awesome... I've just got to give it the Katie touch. But I really haven't found the time. Rockridge is a busier store than Haight/Telegraph so my days are flying by. All of a sudden it is 6.35 and I still haven't gotten to reorganizing the backroom. Being at Body Time makes me miss Jordan so much! There have already been so many times when I have wished she were there so we could laugh at something probably only funny to us. And her mix cds.... yeah I miss me some Jordan Sahmaunt.
The commute is easy peasy. Way nicer than going into the city in the morning. Also, now that I haven't had a car for 3 months I am used to relying on MUNI/BART and it's not as annoying as I remember it being.
It has been really nice being in Oakland and having the opportunity to meet up with my East Bay loves after work. Though, it always means I get back to the city pretty late. I've already taken notice on the super cute boys at the coffee shop. SF has go some good ones... particularly great ones on Shrader street... but there is something about these Oakland boys that get my lungs moving faster and give me smooch-bumps*. It's something honest in them.
As much as I love being back in Oakland, I am not leaving San Francisco. I finally feel like I've got my roots firmly planted, and I am excited to branch out. A few friends have said I am crazy (for lack of better word) for now commuting back to the East Bay and that I should just move back. Other than my new desire to get to know the city better... I cannot think of leaving my roommates. It would make me a very very sad girl to not live with these boys and girl and cat. And Gretta would be sad too. Shrader house = family.
Speaking of loves... I hung out with Aaron Glass the other night. His friend's band was playing a show in the city so I went and met up with them. We had great conversation all night long, and though we have both grown up and experienced a lot in the last 5 years. We were laughing over the same silly shit we always did in high school.
Jenna, Dave and I saw Jenny's band too. It was so good to see Jenny, made me miss Sarah even more. I think that is true for all of us. But Sarah has left Egypt and is now in Nepal... which means soon she will be in India and then she will come home! I cannot wait to meet her.
I'm digging my life right now and where it's going.
*Smooch-bumps are like goose-bumps but you only get them around people you wanna smooch
p.s. come to the city march 7th and see my boys at Slim's. gonna be craze!

i was once a romantic
*i've been writing this through out my morning. coming back to it to write something else that popped in my head. so there is a lack of transitions.
i mean, of course there are still things to learn, change, and wonder about.
i've accepted a lot i didn't know i was resisting.
there is still work to do, but i am enjoying the direction i am heading so far.
le sigh
this morning i was woken up by how bright it was. and i thought excellent! today is going to be one of those wonderful sunny crisp january days. i went back to sleep for another 20 minutes and by the time i woke up the sky had turned to grey. cold not crisp.
cold toes
cold noes
cold earoes
and cold fingeroes
was supposed to go into work at noon. to basically chaperone. now i'm not going in until 4? or maybe 6? or maybe 7?
These last few weeeks at rvca have been insane. on top of crazy busy days for the week of and after christmas, Meghan and I have been working our asses off coming up with an entire new way to run the store... downsize the staff... spread out responsibilities more... reorganize EVERYTHING... retrain EVERYONE.. and to change the whole vibe of the place. it's funny... i dreaded going to work everyday for 6 months... then in my last month and a half i did everything i could to change it and make it better for those who are sticking around after all the changes. i've always thought the idea ... or concept .. of the store was awesome. it just wasn't being done right. in any case... i feel good that i did my part in helping it make sense again.
... oh man. i've been sitting here writing and doodling and drinking coffee and listening to The Good Life's album Black Out. I forgot how amazing it is. Reintroduce yourself to what you love.
it is a good day for creativity
